Cats spend a lot of time lounging around, just being cute. Your pet won’t have any qualms about making herself comfortable on your things. However, your feline buddy will benefit from having a few things of her own. A New Orleans, LA vet offers a few tips for getting purrniture below.

Cat towers are wonderful for kitties, as they are ‘multipurrpose’ pieces that fill several of Fluffy’s needs. Your furry friend will gain a nail-care station, a vantage point from which to survey her kingdom, a napping spot, a jungle gym, and a great place from which she can snag your sleeve as you walk past. Just choose something sturdy: kitties don’t much care for wobbly pieces. Also, keep your pet’s age in mind. If your cat is a senior, get her something with the lowest levels close to the ground. This doesn’t necessarily mean you should get a small one for a kitten, though. Cats quickly outgrow kitten-sized pieces. Finally, if you have more than one cat, get something that will fit all of them at once.

Comfy napping spots are one of the best things in life, as far as Fluffy is concerned. Offer your kitty a few beds to choose from. Store-bought beds are great, but you can just put a throw blanket in a box or wicker basket. If you want something a bit fancier, get a hard-shell suitcase, a hatbox, or even a drawer, and put a soft pillow or blanket in it.

Hammocks are great for summer! They stay cooler than regular beds, because the air passes beneath them. There’s a simple DIY option for this. Just attach a piece of fabric to the legs of a table, and tell Fluffy not to use it. She’ll hop right in!

Many of our feline pals love to look out windows and observe birds and squirrels. Consider getting Fluffy a window seat, so she can relax, sunbathe, and daydream about hunting.

Kitties are quite small, and they often feel safe and cozy in enclosed spaces. Pet tents or tipis are great options for Fluffy! You can of course buy one, but you can also make one out of a tee shirt and coat hanger.
