Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, and care deeply about what we do every day.
When Matt first signed on as a member of the Clearview Veterinary Hospital team, he was looking forward to learning something new every day and being involved in an exciting, dynamic work environment. He didn’t know at the time that it would turn into a lifelong passion! Matt has been helping the area’s pets and animal parents live happier and healthier lives for more than 15 years.
A native of Metairie, Matt first saw an advertisement in the local newspaper for an open position in the hospital’s kennel. He joined the Clearview Veterinary Hospital family in May of 2004, and has been here ever since. Now, Matt enjoys helping clients one-on-one around the clinic, and he’s also fond of working on the hospital’s inventory needs.
Matt and his wife—Clearview Veterinary Hospital’s very own Nikkie!—have a son, Jacob.
Nikkie loves many things about the veterinary profession: problem solving, teamwork, continual learning opportunities, science and medicine… the list goes on and on. One thing is at the heart of her passion, though: pets, as well as the loving owners who care for them. Nikkie makes it her mission every day to better the lives of animal owners and their companions as Clearview Veterinary Hospital’s lead Veterinary Technician!
Nikkie is from Metairie, and first launched her animal-care career at a dude ranch in Tennessee before returning to Louisiana. She first heard about an open position here at Clearview Veterinary Hospital from her husband—the clinic’s very own Matt!—and was hired on as a relief worker after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Nikkie has been a member of the hospital family ever since; now, she’s Head Veterinary Technician!
Around the hospital, Nikkie enjoys surgical work, dental procedures, and helping nervous or anxious patients to feel more comfortable. Her favorite part of every shift is the comradery she feels with her team—for Nikkie, nothing beats getting to work around a group of compassionate animal lovers just like herself on a daily basis.
Nikkie’s interests outside of work include reading, drawing, writing, going on cruises, snorkeling—she’ll soon be SCUBA certified!—and spending quality time with her family. She and Matt have a son, Jacob.
Growing up, Abby always had an inkling she’d one day work with animals. It wasn’t until a family trip to the New York Aquarium, and the chance to get up close and personal with the sea lions and their trainers, that Abby’s mind was officially made up. As a veterinary nurse, Abby is able to combine her love of science and animals to provide our patients with the best possible care!
Abby initially set out to study chemistry at Southeastern University, but after having a change of heart and taking a semester off, she decided instead to focus on animal healthcare. She joined the Clearview Veterinary Hospital team in August of 2022. Professionally, Abby enjoys working with clients and learning about different diagnoses, as well as what medications could address or cure certain conditions. She also has a special interest in surgery – particularly seeing how precise the doctor must be.
Outside of the clinic, Abby resides with her parents and her yorkie, Max, who is Abby’s best friend but has a bit of a Napoleon complex. Max enjoys snuggling up with Abby and his favorite nubby ball every night. In addition to animals, Abby’s other passion is makeup and skincare. Her hobbies include watching and creating videos, and dancing. She also served as captain of her high school cheer and marching teams.
Some people are blessed with natural problem-solving skills. Connor is one of these people, and it’s a skill that has served him very well in his chosen career path. This, combined with a love of hands-on, physical work and a deep desire to improve the human-animal bond, has made Connor an invaluable member of the Clearview Veterinary Hospital team.
Growing up, Connor became the go-to pet sitter for his family and friends. He enjoyed this experience so much, that he went on to volunteer at an animal hospital during high school. After initially pursuing a degree in finance, Connor realized that his true passion remained in animal care. Professionally, Connor loves to put his analytical skills to good use interpreting lab tests.
Growing up in Kenner, Louisiana, Leah can’t recall a time when her family didn’t have at least one pet. Four legs and fur were the norm in that household. As she got older and began to think about a career path, Leah decided to focus on her love for, and experience with animals. As a veterinary nurse, Leah has discovered her passion and is excited to share it with her patients and clients every day.
Leah’s journey officially began after she graduated from high school, when she landed a job at a local vet clinic. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Clearview Veterinary Hospital team and has been here ever since. Professionally, Leah has a particular interest in helping animals with allergies – a condition her own cat suffers from. Seeing their remarkable improvement they make after treatment is incredibly rewarding.
Outside of work, Leah resides with her mother and grandmother, both of whom share her love of animals. Their fur family consists of Chip, a dog Leah was gifted at the age of 5; a cat named Kitty, a.k.a. Leah’s best friend who may or may not believe she is human; and Casper, an all-white stray whom the family took in following Hurricane Ida. Grateful to have been rescued, Casper is a soft, cuddly lover of laps.
Aside from animals, Leah’s personal interests center on music – something she has loved since she was a young child. In fact, from the moment she learned how to talk, she was singing and playing her plastic guitar. Leah recently added ukulele to the growing list of instruments she can play.
Kayt has had a passion for helping animals from a very young age. As a small child, she would play vet with her stuffed animals, and as she grew older, that desire never really wavered. It came as no surprise, then, that when she was old enough to work, Kayt would ultimately choose a career path that would involve veterinary medicine.
Kayt’s journey began at a local animal shelter, where she served as an ACO. While there, she encountered a dog that had been given a very grim prognosis. Never one to back down to a challenge, Kayt stayed firmly in that dog’s corner, and thanks in large part to her unwavering support and refusal to give up, he made a full recovery and was adopted into an amazing home.
After spending a few years at the shelter, Kayt decided to join the Clearview Veterinary Hospital team because she was seeking more clinical work. Professionally, she is fascinated by radiology, enjoys doing lab work, and has a passion for parasite prevention.
At home, Kayt has four pets of her own whom she describes as the light of her life. There’s Saylor, a highly intelligent black lab/golden retriever mix who is obsessed with sticks; Scout, a German shepherd mix who is a complete couch potato; Mowgli, a cuddly sphynx who gets the zoomies every morning at 3 am; and Kit Kat, a shelter cat who Kayt says chose her.
When she’s not busy working at the clinic, Kayt likes to spend her free time playing video games with friends or training Saylor, whom she’s so far taught to sit, spin and wait. She is currently working on getting her to stay when playing fetch, but it’s a work in progress.
When it came to deciding what field to pursue a career in, Cheri felt it was important to choose an environment in which she’d genuinely enjoy working. Her love of animals and innate desire for helping people led her to the veterinary industry, and as it turns out, it was the perfect fit!
Cheri joined the Clearview Veterinary Hospital in October of 2022. As one of our rock star receptionists, Cheri’s friendly face is there to greet our clients and make them feel welcome. Getting to interact with patients is just an added bonus!
Outside of work, Cheri resides with her husband of over thirty years and their two rescue dogs, Belle and Sheldon. They also recently welcomed a new furry family member to their household – a stray kitten whom they named MiMi. In her spare time, Cheri enjoys gardening and doing crafts.
