Our feline friends have a bit of a reputation for being finicky. While Fido will eat just about anything, Fluffy often turns her cute little nose up at things you’d expect her to actually like. That doesn’t mean your pet doesn’t enjoy snacks, however. In hot weather, your kitty may very well appreciate something cold. Read on as a local New Orleans, LA vet lists some treats you can make your cat on scorching days.
This one is likely the simplest option. Keep some of Fluffy’s canned food in the fridge, and give it to her cold. Your furry pal may also enjoy chilled cans of plain tuna, chicken, turkey, shrimp, or crabmeat.
Fluffy can have some cold sodium-free meat, fish, or chicken broth. This is also a great way to keep your feline pal properly hydrated, as broth contains electrolytes. Give your pet a bowl on sweltering afternoons.
This one is bound to please your feline overlord. Get a small dish of shaved ice, and pour some tuna juice or broth over it. Voila! Happy cat.
You can make Fluffy her own ice cubes. Freeze tuna juice or sodium-free broth in an ice cube tray. Don’t pour too much in: you want the cubes to be kitty-sized. You can also add bits of kibble or tuna if you like. Your pet may also enjoy just licking plain ice cubes.
Put a can of cat food in the blender with some ice cubes. This is sort of like a kitty version of a milk shake!
Pick up a few cans of wet cat food, and add some water or sodium-free broth to thin it out a bit. Freeze these in small portions for Fluffy. Use bottlecaps to portion them out.
You should never give your furry buddy regular ice cream. Dairy products actually aren’t good for kitties! However, you can make Fluffy some of her own. Plain yogurt is a safe base. You can also use organic baby food or gravy. Just make sure it doesn’t contain garlic, onions, or any other unsafe ingredients. For extra purrs, add things like canned boneless fish or chicken, kibble, kitty treats, or catnip.
