Homemade Holiday Gifts for Kitties

December 15, 2020

With the holidays coming up quickly, many people are trying to find the perfect gifts for their loved ones. We know that quite a few of our feline patients will also be getting special presents. Of course, if you’re a crafty type, you can also make Fluffy’s things. A local New Orleans, LA vet lists some great options below.

Box Castle

One of Fluffy’s most adorable quirks is her obsession with boxes. Your feline pal will be quite content with a regular box, but if you really want to make your kitty happy, make her a box castle. This is a great project for kids! You can keep it simple, and just give your cat a plain box. Or, go all out, and connect a few different ones. You can also add features like towers, windows, and even a balcony. (Your furry friend would probably also want a moat with fish, but that’s going a bit far.)

Bed

If there’s one thing that always pleases our feline overlords, it’s finding a comfy new spot to nap in. Beds are very easy to make. The absolute simplest option is to put a pillow in a box or wicker basket. You can also use a hard-shell suitcase or hatbox.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great ‘all-purrpose’ pieces for kitties. Fluffy will gain a vantage point from which she can smugly look down on her domain and servants. She’ll also acquire a jungle gym, another napping spot, and a great nail-care station. If you’re handy with tools, you can build one from lumber or PVC pipe. You can also repurpose an old stepladder, bookshelf, or storage rack. Add smooth planks or small shelves for kitty lounging spots. Then, cover the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. Done!

Kitty Tent

Many of our furry friends feel safest in small, enclosed spaces. You can make Fluffy her own little tent out of an old tee shirt and a coat hanger. You can also make your pet a kitty condo out of a plastic storage tote or a small storage box. Cut a hole in one side, and add some soft blankets. You can use contact paper or wrapping paper to make it look nice.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if ever we can be of assistance. As your New Orleans, LA vet clinic, we’re here to help!
